Although the overall forage biomass continued to be below the 10-year average, alewives numbers were double the 2008 survey. Raising Perch  Click on this link for Journal-Sentinel story about raising perch in a Milwaukee factory.  TV Crews to be at Classic (from 3-26 The News-Dispatch) Lights, cameras, Fish On!Television crews will be at the Hoosier Coho Club Classic on May 1-2 in Michigan City."333TV," a spin-off of the popular Tournament Trail 333 contest within a contest, will have a pair of cameras on boats during competition and on shore at weigh-ins and the awards ceremony for the 36th annual Classic."Michigan City will be the debut of a 13-part series focusing on the fun aspect of Lake Michigan tournaments," said Scott MacDonald of Tournament Trail. "Our production crew promises the show will air in 20 million homes, starting in the second and third quarter of this year. It will be on charter cable stations and a variety of (network) affiliates." The La Porte County Convention & Visitors Bureau is on board with the promotion."It's a wonderful chance to showcase La Porte County," said Jack Arnett, president of the LCCVB, who met with Tournament Trail representatives on Thursday."It's great the Classic fishing tournament will be the first in the series," said Arnett, adding, "Fred (MacDonald) and his staff have our full support in bringing exposure to this Summer Festival event."Tournament Trail's 333 series, which will be at 15 Lake Michigan fishing events in 2010, has prospered in recent years while most tournaments have stagnated or declined in the depressed economy."All you have to do is weigh three fish in two days," explains Scott MacDonald. "Weekend warriors, seasoned pros and recreational anglers all have a legitimate chance in this format,"Tournament Trail, which has been coming to Michigan City since 2006, will add $15,000 in cash and merchandise awards to the 2010 Classic, including $1,000 cash for first place.The 333 prizes go down 20 places and there are three Gimme 5 awards (Big King, Big Laker and Big 3-specie Combo) worth at least $500.Entry fee for 333 is $100 if entered in the Classic or $150 to fish the 333 alone. The Classic awards $7,500 cash for first place in the Pro division ($425 entry fee) and $2,500 in the Amateur ($225 fee).Late fees for the Classic kick in after April 24 and registration is also required to get free boats slips for contest week.
